As a leadership team, we are passionate about equipping believers for their mission to the world, their ministry in the church, and above all, their maturity in Christ.
As Paul says, our calling is to “equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12-13, NRSV)
Note the inclusive language – “all of us”. Maturity in the faith is not the destiny of the privileged few, but God’s desire for every believer. It leads to unity with believers and intimacy with God. The ultimate goal of maturity is simple - becoming more like Jesus, “to the measure of the full stature of Christ”.
But maturity doesn’t happen automatically. To grow in maturity we need solid food, training and practice. “Solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity” (Hebrews 5:14- 6:1)
The message is clear: A Christian cannot become mature without getting their teeth stuck into something that requires chewing and then putting into practice what they learn.
‘Stretch’ is a Bible class for those who want to chew on God’s word, ask questions, wrestle with the hard bits, and work out together what it means to live it out. It’s solid food for those who don’t mind chewing! All are welcome.
